They say love is better the 2nd or 3rd time around and that life really does begin at 50.
For the Colvards, both sayings were most apropos. The story begins in 2000, when Dr. Fred Colvard, after 34+ years as a high school administrator and superintendent, accepted a position at Marathon High School as their principal. For Fred, coming to the Florida Keys was a dream come true.
He had aspirations of finishing several books he was outlining, buying a boat and take up fishing again. Little did he know that in 7 months, he would be married!
And at same time, Diane Chaplin, was carving out her niche in a real estate career that had spanned over 30+ years. Her company, Waterfront Specialists, was gaining much recognition in the luxury home market.
Her parents, Cecelia and Delbert Chaplin, true pioneers came to the Keys from West Virginia in the early 1950's, encouraged Diane to get her license in l972 while she was attending the University of Florida.
Diane was sure that she would be the sole creator of her future. And then one day, a local banker said, there's a new principal at Marathon High and you need to meet him.
Well, the rest is history. Now we are one: two cats, two Yorkies, two daughters (Kaylee, University of Florida graduate, & Kellee, a University of Central Florida graduate), two sons, three grandsons and one great grandson, what more could one ask for?
